The versatile nature of wax will be explored through demonstration of carving, usage of burrs, and finishing techniques. Completed projects will be professionally cast with explanation of process. You will have the option to make a mold to cast multiple pieces.  Working in wax offers jewelers great possibilities for creating jewelry with a sculptural feel. This class is for those at beginners level.

Introductory class, students will learn techniques for carving large sculptural bracelets as well as more delicate ones.  Basic carving, hollowing, and texturing techniques will be covered.  The second class will focus on metal finishing techniques for the pieces carved in the first class.

In this class students will create a cabochon bezel setting for a ring using the wax carving technique. In the second class students will learn how to set their stones in the ring they created the first class, as well as how to finish their metal piece.

In this class students will be introduced to the basics of wax carving and be able to carve their very own design.  The versatile nature of wax will be explored through demonstration of carving, texturing, and finishing techniques. Note: This class is divided into 2 days (1 week apart).   Day 1 consists of carving your design in wax and day 2 consists of cleaning your casting.

Wax Carving: Ring - 5 hours.

Wax  Carving: Stone Setting - 6 hours.

Wax Carving: Bracelet - 6 hours.

We provide tools and you are responsible for the materials which will be the wholesale price of silver, gold, platinum or whatever material you choose.

From the Mayans, Aztecs, Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, Hindus, and Africans, snake jewelry has symbolized a variety of important things for many civilizations.  For some royalty and power, others wisdom and protection, as well as rebirth, eternal love and on and on.   From ancient to modern civilization many will agree that snakes are one of the most beautiful and loved motifs in jewelry.

In this workshop, Michael Regan of Regan Jewelry and Little Kings Jewelry will demonstrate how to carve a snake out of wax.  Students will be responsible for casting and cleaning on their own time. This is a 4 hour workshop for intermediate and advance students dedicated to focus on the techniques of carving specifically snakes.

You must have a sketch ready for class - you may also bring in a picture or a jewelry piece.

Prerequisite: Intermediate/Advance level - You must have wax carving experience to take this workshop.
