"Bring Your Own Booze" Ring Making Workshop is a fun yet informative silversmithing class where you will learn how to make a variation of stackable rings in sterling silver while sipping on some wine.  

Students will be taught how to apply different hammered textures, use a torch to anneal & solder, clean and polish rings.

Great friend, group or date activity!

We will be serving a cheese & fruit plate but feel free to bring your own snacks :)

CLOISONNE ENAMEL

A technique of applying powdered glass to metal and then torch or kiln firing it to its melting point the enamel cools in brilliant colors to make an amazing decoration on your metalwork. The technique dates back to the time of the ancient Egyptians who used it on pottery and jewelry.

In this one day workshop, you will use cloisonne wire to create a design of your own and learn how to apply enamel properly, fire to the correct temperature, counter-enamel to prevent cracking and wet-sand and polish to create a finished piece.

    Learn to prong set your own gemstones in this one day weekend workshop. Starting with sterling silver 4 prong settings and faceted round gemstones, learn how to measure and account for depth and shape of the stone, cut a seat and create a bearing with files & burs.

    Build on your metal skills by exploring the process of bezel setting. This one day workshop will concentrate on making simple but beautiful bezels for pendants, earrings or rings in sterling silver. The workshop will cover step and fancy bezels.

    In this one day workshop you will learn how to drill, open up and prepare metal to set stones flush into the piece. Students will practice setting on plates of metal in different size stones and once confident proceed to set stones on their own pieces with the guidance of the teacher.

    You are welcome to bring in your own pieces to set stones in, otherwise you can keep practicing on plates.  We will provide cubic zirconia stones to practice on but you are welcome to bring your own - make sure they are 2 and 3mm round faceted stones.  We recommend hard stones such as sapphires and diamonds.

    New members must come in during supervised bench time and be approved to come in for regular bench hours or monthly/yearly membership.  After approval you are welcome to come in during business hours to use the studio except when class & workshops are in process - please refer to the school calendar or give us a call. 

    If you are a beginner and need some help, please come in during our supervised bench-time where there will be a technician to help you with questions.  Hours are listed below.

    The studio is equipped with the following: flex shaft on each bench, acetylene torches, micro torches, ring stretcher, polishing machines, sandblaster, steamer, ultrasonic, magnetic tumblers, vibratory tumbler, rolling mills, drill press, draw horse, hammers, mallets, mandrels, ring sizers, wax tools, wax injector, guillotine shear, tweezers, pliers, files, sandpaper, kilns, and more!  Please email us if you don't see what you need on the list.  

    We ask bench renters to bring in their own materials and small hand tools.  You must check in and out with a bench technician and sign a waiver form if you are new to the studio.

    • For safety, it is required for everyone to wear safety goggles, closed-toe shoes, and tie long hair back when using the polishing wheel or flex shaft.
    • Bench renters must be 18 years of age or older.  Minors will have to be accompanied by an adult.
    • Fitzgerald Jewelry reserves the right to deny access or to remove any student/member we feel are disruptive to the learning environment or a potential risk of injury to other people.
    • Bench hours expire within 1 year of purchase.
    • Bench hours are non-transferrable and non-shared.  We do not offer refunds for unused portion of bench hours.

    some of us have made some regrettable purchases in the past or have been passed down some really unattractive pieces :P

    In this private workshop you will learn how to melt your gold and turn them into something special and one of a kind.  If you have a specific project in mind, please email us pictures or sketches for approval.

    Class tuition is $500 per item.  It will take 4-6 hours to complete one piece.  If student exceeds the 6 hours limit, an hourly rate of $75/hour will be prorated.

    An email confirmation will be sent once you purchase your private lesson.

    DISCLAIMER: Not all gold will recycle well especially vintage pieces that have been worked and re-worked on.  Since we do not know for sure how your pieces were produced, we can not guarantee 100% success.  If contaminants cause your piece to be un-recyclable, you will have the following options:

    1. We can switch to sterling silver which we carry in stock, and continue to learn the technique of recycling and fabrication of a ring.  You will have 3 hours of free bench time to return during supervised bench time to apply those same techniques on gold with the supervision of a bench tech.

    2.  We can reschedule your workshop and have you come back with more gold.  We can help you send your un-recyclable gold to the refinery and get money to apply it to the purchase of new gold (you may need to purchase extra gold).  

    3.  Get 50% refund (we ask you to understand that we value the time of our teachers and they need to get compensated for their time).

    JEWELRY DISTRICT TOUR

    During this 2-3 hour tour you will be taken to a lapidary and casting company where you will see first hand how stones are cut and molds, castings, and 3d prints are made.  We will also show you jewelry supply shops where you can purchase chains, findings, and materials at market value.  You will have the opportunity to ask questions and see back of the house production. 

    This tour is strictly offered to past or current students.

    This workshop focuses on the methods used to make hand made chains and findings from silver wire. Methods will be taught to create jump rings of one size to create a uniform chain.  This is a great class work on your soldering skills.
    The Instructor will work closely with the students to refine skills needed to create a necklace or bracelet. 

    Silver will be provided.

    You may bring in your own tools or rent them at the studio ($15).

    Prerequisite: Intermediate/Advance level - You must have basic soldering and fabrication experience to take this class. 

    The micro torch is a handy tool that is essential for small scale soldering.  In this workshop you will learn how to use a micro torch to solder a small prong onto a dainty ring, set the stone, polish and clean. 

    We will provide faceted stones but if you would like to pick your own stone, make sure you get a 3mm round faceted stone with a good hardness such as a sapphire (they are available in assorted colors).

    We will provide Sterling Silver but if you would like to work in Gold you will need to bring in 3" of 1.25mm soft round wire along with a size 10Pt Prong Basket Setting (for a 3mm faceted stone).

    Cuttlefish casting is a fun way of casting that will create distinctive fingerprint-like textures. Students will learn how to make a 2 part mold using cuttlebone, meltdown and pour sterling silver, and create a one-of-a-kind ring!

    In this one day workshop, you will make a finished ring, pendant or earrings using pearls. You will learn how to drill pearls and make a cap and post. We will cover the many varieties of pearls and how to use pearls best in your jewelry designs.
